East Central District Health Department is hiring a Disease Surveillance Coordinator to support communicable disease surveillance, case investigations, outbreak response, public health reporting, and data management.
This position works with healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, long-term care facilities, and Nebraska DHHS to help monitor disease trends and protect community health.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and investigate reportable communicable diseases
- Review and manage disease reports through NEDSS and other systems
- Conduct case investigations, interviews, exposure assessments, and contact tracing
- Maintain accurate case records in state and local surveillance systems
- Provide disease control education to individuals, providers, schools, and community partners
- Assist with outbreak investigations and emerging public health threats
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities
- Support public health reporting, performance management, and accreditation efforts
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Community Health, or a related field
- One year of experience in public health, healthcare, disease surveillance, epidemiology, or a related field
Relevant internship, practicum, or field experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Public Health, or related degree
- Experience with communicable disease investigations
- Experience using NEDSS, NESIIS, REDCap, or similar systems
- Registered Nurse licensure
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills
